AI and Moonstone
Artificial Intelligence is a prevalent topic across every industry and - let’s face it - it’s a complicated topic. We’re not going to get into the ins-and-outs of it, but we wanted to share our position for clarity.
What You Buy
Nothing you buy from us will have been generated by AI.
As some examples:
We will develop character and other gameplay rules ourselves, including initial concepts, playtesting etc.
We’ll work with human artists (or do some of it ourselves) for illustrations, 3D models, painting miniatures, packaging artwork, map designs, video creation etc.
Any stories you read will be from our own brains and written with our own hands.
We may use templates or draw inspiration from other sources, but we will physically create everything you buy. This is the most creative and enjoyable part of what we do, so why would we get AI to do it!? It’s also the best way to support the broader gaming industry and that matters a great deal.
What We Do
There’s a huge amount of admin that goes on behind the scenes, as well as marketing activities, and other desk-based and less-creative work that we have to do. At the moment we don’t use AI for this, but in future we might use AI to help with some of these less fun and not-public-facing tasks (analysing analytics or summarising notes post-game) to save us time.
But this will not be at the cost of our integrity, particularly when it comes with working with artists, and to be honest we quite like doing all this stuff too.
Who You Talk To
We have no plans to introduce AI-driven responses, like a chatbot on our website. We’re proud to answer all your emails by hand (usually Mick, Mike or Tom) as well as all the social media DMs (usually Suzie), and don’t plan on automating any of our responses.
Our Social Channels
We help administer social groups across Facebook, Reddit and Discord, then people post on their personal accounts too. And we love seeing what you all get up to!
We’ve started seeing some posts include an AI element, like animating painted minis, which causes some heated discussions. We ask you all to be kind to each other and keep discussions respectful, contact moderators if needed and scroll on if you don’t like something. As you can see from the above, we’re personally not fans of generative AI but don’t want to stop individuals using it unless there is a clear broader impact.
Overall, we hope you keep playing and enjoying Moonstone as much as we enjoy creating it!
